This past weekend saw the inaugural MWEB Gaming Gathering event (powered by MSI Gaming South Africa) hosted at the MWEB Head Office in Cape Town. With pizza supplied by Debonairs Pizza and drinks covered by Reboost Energy Drink, there was plenty of fuel to keep the attendees going.

And that fuel proved necessary as a full evening saw speakers speak, games played, and food and beverages consumed, with giveaways, well, given away. There was plenty of socialising and chatting which – let’s be honest – is a much-needed activity in local gaming.

MissLadyJay – better known as Jessica Maij to her family and friends – is no stranger to the local gaming scene. Well, she shouldn’t be as she has been involved for quite some time, having participated in Call of Duty tournaments and other events a good few years back already.

More recently, her focus has shifted to streaming and Gwent. Over the last year, Jessica became a Twitch Partner and made it into the top 16 (internationally) in the Gwent Pro Ladder.

We decided to find out more directly from Jessica about her streamer and Gwent career.

  • Find your local League of Legends Rank with ACGL
    Read More

The League of Legends Southern African player base has always been a community that we have wanted to help build and support. We know and understand that the community has been rather fragmented at times, especially when it comes to understanding how many local players there are - and even more specifically how many play competitively. Without the base numbers, it is exceedingly difficult to get sponsorship attachment, as we understand that there are a variety of types of League of Legends fans (casual, competitive, spectators, content creators and cosplayers) that enjoy and love the game.

While that might be a broad statement, it is also one of the reasons why League of Legends is one of the most popular games in the world - there is something in it for everyone.

We feel that we needed to tackle the broadest sense of the community by providing a space for inclusivity but additionally by adding a feature that we know the community needs.

  • WHAT WE DID IN 2018
    Read More

As we look back at 2018, it comes as quite a surprise to us that it has surpassed 2017 on so many levels. That was not possible without the support of the communities, volunteers, staff, partners and sponsors. Can we continue to improve and grow in 2019? With the help of the aforementioned, we would really like to think so.

  • Beta Ladder Wrap Up

As we roll into the holiday season and our planned website update, it’s time to reflect on the recent ladders we hosted.

As with so many things we do, there was an element of utilizing the period to test some new ladder concepts in preparation for additional elements in 2019. If you participated, thank you. The time you put in has given us valuable data and information for our future plans.

The number of teams that registered for the PlayStation 4 Black Ops 4 ladder was quite unprecedented. It was unfortunate that many remained inactive but with over 70 teams on the participant list, it seems the title has great support locally.

  • ACGL goes into holiday maintenance
    Read More

On Monday 3 December 2018, ACGL is taking a break. At least, the website is. And it isn't. The date marks the start of a pretty hefty overhaul of the website, meaning our developer and ever supportive hosting company PiQue will be beavering away while you are (possibly) starting your holiday.

The website will not appear at first glance to be in maintenance. We will be keeping many of the non-customisable elements available to visitors. The news and profiles will all be viewable. However, you will not be able to edit or customise your profile, as that will be locked down until the site returns. Fear not though as your profile will generally return unscathed come 7 January 2019 when we will lift the lid on the updated website and its new features.

We really cannot wait to show you the ..... and the ....., as well as the addition to the ..... Then there's the new ..... and updated ..... So many cool things. But you will just need to wait until January to find out what ..... actually means. Yes, we like to tease.

The Rainbow Six Siege league in our 2018 season three recently concluded. Up until the start of the league in September, we had offered only standalone cups. Following engagement with the local Rainbow Six community, it was established that the scene preferred the longer campaign of a league.

  • XP Wagers Ladder Beta
    Read More

After some time away for us to rethink the use and need for a ladder system, we are pleased to announce the return of the ladders which will be available for both established titles and a way for us to gauge untested - or new - titles on the site.

We will be opening a new 'wager' ladder system this Friday for FIFA 19 and Black Ops 4, but you can sign up already (see below). Additional ladders will be added over time, while a new 'Proving Ground' ladder system will follow early next year. With the Proving Ground, new titles will get a run to see the scale of the community. Should there be the desired support, the season that follows will see the title expanded to more formalised cup, ladder or league systems.

Please note that the ladders are in no way a replacement for our cups but an opportunity to participate and scrim more regularly and at a time that benefits you and your teammates and opponents. The cups will return again.
