It started with 48 teams over two qualifiers but ended with one winner on the night. The MWEB GameZone Masters Series for Rocket League proved to be an exciting series that culminated this past Sunday as the top four battled for the cash up for grabs.

The four teams faced off in a double elimination bracket with the winner's leg played as a best of five and the loser's as a best of three.

The action proved to be exhilarating, breathless, one-sided and tense in equal measures - and at times, all at once too.

Match one saw Rocket Eclairs and Team Name (yes, their actual team name...) facing off and the former securing a 3-1 series win to move on in the winner's bracket. The second match featured VxP | Elem3ntriX and eXdee Gaming, which saw the latter ease past their opponents in a relatively comprehensive fashion.

The winner's bracket final saw Rocket Eclairs and eXdee Gaming in a battle to remain undefeated and gain a guaranteed grand final spot - and the series advantage that brings. The match saw eXdee Gaming take a 2-0 series lead, but the Rocket Eclairs didn't roll over without a fight and brought the series back to 2-2. It took a 4-2 game win in the last round to secure eXdee Gaming the spot in the grand final, while Rocket Eclairs headed to the loser's bracket final.

Off-stream, the first round of the loser's bracket saw VxP | Elem3ntriX become the first team to be eliminated, while Team Name headed on to the loser's bracket final.

The best of three loser's bracket final match between Rocket Eclairs and Team Name went the way of the latter 2-0 and a total goal count of 8-1. It set up a tantalizing grand final with eXdee Gaming.

If you wanted goals, the grand final provided plenty of them. There was a total of 27 goals across five matches in the series. And it was a series that went back and forth throughout.

eXdee Gaming took match one 8-0 and for everyone watching, the expectation was that they would continue the rout and ease to a 3-0 series win.

But Rocket Eclairs turned it around with a 4-1 win. eXdee Gaming then took the series lead again with a 4-0 win, only for Rocket Eclairs to dominate match four with a 7-0 win.

It was almost down to the wire in match five as a win by Rocket Eclairs would force a second best of five. The team gave it their all and pushed eXdee Gaming but it was the eXdee team that ultimately prevailed 2-1 to secure a series win 3-2 and the R3,000 in cash for first place.

Congratulations to the teams and a massive thanks to all the players who participated in the tournament. Thanks too to everyone that joined us on any of the live streams.
