Four heats. A qualifier. And one epic finale.

Over the course of around six weeks, South Africa's best Injustice 2 fighters battled for their shot at the R60,000 cash up for grabs and the coveted slot at VS Fighting in Birmingham.

All roads led to Weiveld in Pretoria where our final four went head to head on the stage in front of a full house eager to catch the action and the bands on the agenda for the night - Fokofpolisiekar and Jack Parow.

There were four very nervous players waiting backstage as the crowd started filing in at 6:15pm. Venue management had predicted a sellout of 1,800 attendees and the action kicked off at 7:30pm with the vast majority already in the venue.

Under the watchful eye of MC Rob Forbes and casting partner Nick 'HoldenZA' Holden, the first semi-final (aka red final) featured first seed Brandon ‘Sho Kahn’ Jacob up against Zibusiso ‘Zee The Janitor’ Mangena. The match up saw Black Adam and Darkseid selected and proved to be an engaging and close fought affair that went the way of Brandon 3-0.

Vasudev ‘Taga Kahn’ Stringer and Prakash ‘FTG PARASURAMA’ Kathan faced off in the second semi-final (aka blue final) and both players went with a Superman blind pick. As expected, the match proved a real battle of attrition and after another tight match, Prakash emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline.

This set up an epic final to decide the SA Champ. But before the crowd could see what the top two players in South Africa could achieve, the focus shifted to another friendly rivalry featuring Jack Parow and Francois van Coke (from Fokofpolisiekar).

The match up saw Jack pull out The Flash to counter Francois' The Joker with the former being the bookie's favourite to win. Surprisingly (and perhaps with a little collusion), the two found themselves at 1-1 and forced into a third round to decide the winner. Jack turned on the skill and went on to take the face off 2-1.

THE FINAL

And then it was back to the serious business. Brandon Jacob had been a pretty dominant force during the online heats and qualifier, but things are always quite different in a LAN environment with a couple of thousand eyes watching you.

As the underdog (based on the build-up online matches) Prakash Kathan appeared to have a mountain to climb. Both players decided to stick with their semi-final choices which saw Brandon begin with Black Adam against the Superman of Prakash.

As with all the matches played on the night, the final was another that went in roundabouts. It took four rounds for the winner to emerge and that winner was Brandon Jacob who looked the most composed through the night. He will need to ensure that he carries that composure over to Birmingham in August where players from all over the world will be in attendance.

THIRD AND FOURTH

As the bands prepared to entertain the packed venue for rest of the night, there was one final tournament matter to attend to, and that was the decider for third and fourth place.

In the closest match of the night, Vasudev Stringer faced off against Zibusiso Mangena. It was the latter (aka 'Zee The Janitor') that prevailed after five rounds to secure the third spot 3-2.
