This Sunday we are taking to the skies with our Top four Rocket League teams for the MWEB GameZone Master Series (MGMS). Yesterday we highlighted our first match of the tournament, between Rocket Eclairs and Team Name.

Today we are going to once again go behind the curtain to reveal the team thoughts going into the Grand Finals this Sunday. Thus, we have caught up with VxP | Elem3ntriX and eXdee Gaming who will be playing against one another in the second game of the night.

VxP | Elem3ntriX

VxP | Elem3ntriX took part in the first MGMS qualifier where they started off their tournament in extremely confident fashion. That was until they faced the Rocket Eclairs team who promptly kept them at second place throughout the tournament.

Now the team is looking to turn around their fortunes in the Grand Finals to show everyone that they are ready to take the title.

We caught up with the team captain Daniel 'DFThaman' Luttig to find out some of his thoughts going into this Sunday's Grand Final.

What has your team’s preparations been going into this weekend’s MGMS Grand Finals?

"Individually each of us put a lot of hours in recently, especially playing scrims and fun private games on local servers. We did already start practicing and preparing with local scrims but practicing together has been difficult as the current VxP roster is different to the one that qualified last year already for the MGMS Grand Finals.

Heisenberg_Luke and I moved to PC and therefore PaPa_Capes, who is still on PS4, departed from the team. It is actually interesting because we picked up Elf_ZA, who this weekend will also be returning on a once-off basis to play with his old team, Rocket Éclair. MGMS comes at a time when VS Gaming’s qualifiers also started so we played a lot of games with Elf_ZA recently. Fortunately, we played for a long time with PaPa_Capes and still remain good friends with him so I am sure the synergy will still be there for this weekend. I am really looking forward to it."

What's your thoughts on your first opposition, xD?

"xD is probably the best team in the country right now. I have a lot of respect for their captain, mOTHER (Christian Massyn), who is a very cool guy and we are good friends with them. They have 3 very talented players and they have been showcasing top-level passing plays recently so they are very dangerous on the offensive. However, they are also still a new team and need more time to become more accustomed to each other’s play-styles. Recently our scrims and competitive games have been really close against them, so I do think we stand a chance if we can always find a way to stay in the match."

What do you think will be critical for your team to focus on in your first match?

"It can be easy to overthink aspects like this so firstly, we need to be calm and collected and deal with the nerves effectively. Secondly, we need to make sure to find our rhythm in the first couple of minutes. And then we must just play our game with freedom and enjoy ourselves.

Who do you think will be the toughest competition in the tournament? I think all 3 teams will be really tough. Team Name is a quality side, Rocket Éclair have 3 amazing players, and of course xD is really good as I have previously said. If I have to choose one it will have to be xD as I know they have been training and scrimming a lot recently so they are probably very well prepared for any situation this weekend."

What are your aspirations for this weekend’s tournament?

This is a unique opportunity playing as one of only four teams to have qualified for a tournament with one of the biggest prize pools in South African Rocket League history. We are going to give our best and enjoy it. I really hope we can finish in one of the top 3 positions.

How do you feel about the competitive progress of the South African community since the server introduction? It has been amazing impetus for growth. So many new people of different skill levels have joined the scene since Psyonix, the Rocket League developers, introduced local servers. So many new tournaments and new teams entering, and more people producing content has really been good for the growth of the community. I hope we can keep up the progress and growth.

What are your overall thoughts on the MGMS tournament? "I really appreciate and thank ACGL and MWEB GameZone for the initiative. It is heart-warming that there are big organisations that take Rocket League seriously. It is indeed one of the fastest growing international esports titles and people of all ages can follow and enjoy it more easily than some other esports titles. I also want to thank people like ACGL co-owner, Nick Holden, who has always kept in touch with the community and has worked closely with all the teams involved in this specific tournament. The prize pool is an added bonus. I think the exposure that Rocket League in South Africa got through channels such as Twitter and the Youtube and Twitch channels of ACGL, MWEB GameZone and Rocket League Xpress (who streamed one of the qualifiers) has been fantastic. I am grateful for that and hope there will be many more in the future!"

eXdee Gaming

The eXdee Gaming squad are coming into the Grand Finals as one the the favorite teams. Thus far every single team has declared them as the squad to beat.

Here's the team captain, Christian "mOTHER" Massyn:

What has your team’s preparations been going into this weekend’s MGMS Grand Finals?

We have recently discovered a online white board tool that we now use in strategy meetings to discuss our play. It is extremely effective and has allowed us to develop a sort of play book to implement certain strategies we want to use.

What's your thoughts on your first opposition, vXp.

Vxp is a respected and we have seen massive growth from their players in the last year. Definitely a team to keep an eye on.

What do you think will be critical for your team to focus on in your first match?

Its cliche, but basics. Fancy stuff doesnt always win you tourneys. Majority of the hard work done in tourneys is keeping it basic and making sure you do the small things right.

Who do you think will be the toughest competition in the tournament?

We are expecting a thrasher of a game against rocket eclair. They are unfortunately disbanding after mgms, elf is already part of the new vxp roster, so we are expecting them to try go out with a bang.

What are your aspirations for this weekend’s tournament?

Hopefully the stream can attract many viewers this weekend. We are looking to grow rocket league in SA and tournaments like this are am excellent opportunity.

How do you feel about the competitive progress of the South African community since the server introduction?

We have definitely seen the local scene increase. 32 teams played in the recent qualifier 2. A number which hasnt been achieved before. And this gets us very excited. We have also seen bigger organisations show interest in RLSA. With us being acquired by Exdee gaming we feel this is a big step for RLSA.

What are your overall thoughts on the MGMS tournament?

We feel it has been structured extremely well. It was a good guy greg move from ACGL to increase the teams in qualifier 2 which gave more teams the opportunity to participate which we think is a crucial part of rlsa’s progression.
