We highlighted some of the details surrounding the MWEB GameZone Master Series (MGMS) yesterday and how the top four teams qualified for the Grand Final which will take place this Sunday.

Over the next two days we will be pulling back the curtain on some of the teams thoughts going into this Sunday's Finale.

Our first fixture will kick off at 17:00 and will be between Rocket Eclairs and Team Name - who we caught up with before this weekends action.

Rocket Eclairs

Rocket Eclairs took part in the first MGMS qualifier where they completely decimated the 16-team tournament by going, not only undefeated, but also managed to not drop a single match throughout the tournament.

The team, however, disbanded after the MGMS tournament but are reforming once again to take the Rocket Eclairs to the top.

We caught up with Stefano "Nianfo" Batazzi to learn more about what the squad is going through before stepping into the Grand Finals.

How's your team's preparations been going into the MGMS Grand Finals?

"Our team preparations have been minimal as we are disbanding after this coming tournament."

What's your thoughts on your first opposition, Team Name?

"Team Name are very aggressive and we have to be careful when going for 50/50s."

What do you think will be critical for your team to focus on in your first match?

"Keeping a good synergy and head in the game will be critical."

Who do you think will be the toughest competition in the tournament?

"Dangerkids, mother's team, are the hardest working team in the country. They are in top form and will probably win this tournament."

How do you feel about the competitive progress of the South African community since the server introduction?

"Personally, the competitive is extremely disappointing. I feel like we could have a thousand more active players, but most give up easily."

What are your overall thoughts on the MGMS tournament?

"MGMS is the stepping stone for competitive Rocket League in 2018, and I hope it continues this way for the community."

Team Name

Team Name - yes that is their chosen team ID - has had one of the toughest challenges to make it into the Grand Final.

They participated in the second MGMS qualifier which had 32 teams  where they found themselves knocked down to the loser's brackte. Thanks to some great determination, they boosted their way out of the loser's bracket and into this Sunday's Grand Finals.

We caught up with their team captain, Leon ‘li0n_za’ Havenga, and this is what he had to say.

How's your team's preparations been going into the MGMS Grand Finals?

"We have just done a few ranked matches to get our rotations and familiarity in the team going."

What's your thoughts on your first opposition, Rocket Eclairs?

"It will be a hard match, but we have taken them down before, and we can definitely do so again."

What do you think will be critical for your team to focus on in your first match?

"Consistency and fluidity, if we can keep our rotations going the odds will be in our favour."

Who do you think will be the toughest competition in the tournament?

"Definitely Exdee. Hopefully we can take the final from them this time."

What are your aspirations for this weekend's tournament?

"I really would like to take first, and I think we have the potential, but I wouldn't be unhappy with a top two finish."

How do you feel about the competitive progress of the South African community since the server introduction?

"The higher end matches have been amazing, the lower ping has made the matches a lot more exciting and calculated. We also saw a lot of new players surface, which is great."

What are your overall thoughts on the MGMS tournament?

"MGMS was great. I think it is the most teams I have seen enter for a Rocket League tournament.  My only issue actually is that it was so spread, other than that, it has been really good."

Side note: I felt it was necessary to mention that the Team Name squad recently did something fantastic for the local Rocket League community and showed ACGL some recent support too.

The team opted to use some of their prize pool to support some CC tournaments on the ACGL site by sponsoring entry to eight teams in the tournament. Their generosity is admiral, and when I asked  Leon as to why they are doing it he responded:

"You guys do a lot for the RLSA community, wanted to give back a little."

It means a lot to us and we, along with MWEB GameZone, hope to be able to provide more opportunities to grow the competitive gaming scene with each tournament and event we form a part of.
