This coming weekend (and beyond) sees Comic Con Africa hit Gallagher Convention Centre. It will also mark the final pre-season activity before the start of the second season of Mortal Kombat 11.

At Comic Con Africa, attendees can get a taste of competing in the title, while seasoned competitors are welcome too. Up for grabs is R10,000 cash for one winner. The four days of Mortal Kombat 11 action is being brought to you by Inscape Education Group and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Attendees can qualify daily for a final on Tuesday 24 September, when Inscape will award R10,000 to the "last kombatant standing". Every day of Comic Con Africa, the first 16 players to secure a five match (best of one) winning streak against rotating opponents will secure themselves a spot in Tuesday's single elimination best of three playoffs.

Schedule:

  • Saturday, Sunday and Monday:
    The qualifying starts daily at 10:30am until 16 players are found. Or until the expo closes for the day.
  • Tuesday:
    Qualifying starts at 10:30am and ends at 1pm.
    Playoffs start at 1:30pm.

There is no pre-registration required and players will gain access on a first-come-first-served basis on the day, with the winner of a game staying on, and a new opponent slotting in alongside them. So, do you come to the event early to get the best run at the day, or chance your arm and come when players are fatiguing? The choice is yours but be aware that once 16 players have been found in a day, the space becomes a freeplay area.

Players who secure a finals playoff spot will have access arranged for them for Tuesday. Qualifying players should also ensure that they have checked-in to compete by 1pm.

Alongside the virtual dismemberments is a showcase of the best Mortal Kombatt 11 fan art, where a limited edition Mortal Kombat 11 Kollector’s Edition valued at R4 499,99 can be won. Inside the box is:

  • A premium Edition copy of the game on PlayStation 4;
  • Exclusive Steelcase & Magnet;
  • 1:1 Scale Scorpion Mask (35 X 18 X 21 CM);
  • Kollector Box.

To enter the fan art competition, you need to do is submit your fan art through the Inscape website here. There is no entry fee for either competitions.

Of course, many of you will be wondering about the plans for season two. Those details will be ammounced on Monday 23 September. [Announcement unfortunately delayed. Updates soon.]
