ACGL is back and we're excited to share what we have been up to during the holiday break. As you can see some things have changed on our platform, but there is so much more to reveal. Before we do, we would like to acknowledge that your feedback has been crucial in allowing us to build a better future with ACGL. We encourage you to continue giving us your feedback in 2020 as we try to give you the best esports experience in Africa. So, without further delay, let's take a look at the outline for 2020 and the changes that we have made to our platform.

A brand new look and feel

There have been loads of new updates to the look and feel of the website, which includes the navigations bar, game pages and more.

Navigation Bar

The ACGL platform has gone through a complete overhaul with a brand new User Interface (UI). The UI has been tasked to give gamers access to their desired location with the minimum amount of clicks possible. The navigation bar, which is found either at the bottom of your mobile device or top-right of your monitor, gives you instant access to your notifications, messages activity, and teams. We have found that these specific pages are accessed regularly and have been prioritized as a result.

Players will still be able to access their personal profile menu by clicking on their avatar on the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Game pages

The game pages have also gone through an update. In addition to displaying the upcoming tournaments, we have added the following:

  • The top 5 players on the leaderboard
  • Last tournament champion
  • Latest 5 relating news items

Seasonal outline

The ACGL calendar for 2020 will be divided into two separate seasons for all of our premier titles. Our pre-season will commence today and close at the end of the month. The end of the pre-season will mark the beginning of our first Season on the ACGL platform. The season dates are as follows:

  • Pre-season: 6 January to 2 February
  • Season 1: 3 February to 30 June
  • Season 2: July (exact date TBA) to 30 November

Will we be announcing specifics relating to the games for each season in the weeks to come.

Ranking: XP out, ELO in

In 2016 we introduced the ACGL XP system, which has been a fundamental part of our ranking and seeding system. In 2020, we have decided to bench the old system and replace it with a brand new ELO-based ranking system. The ELO rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players where rankings are calculated based on matches won/lost and the respective rating of the opposing player/team.

Rankings will be assigned individually and will also count for seeding for all tournaments unless specifically stated otherwise. In the case of team-based matches/tournaments, seeding will be based on the calculated total of the team ELO.

ELO will be awarded in all matches, where tournament matches will have a higher multiplier than that of Matchfinders. Our Matchfinders will open on Saturday and continue until the end of the preseason.

We currently have five tiers of ranks planned for 2020. These ranks will only be revealed as we get closer to the start of the season.

For the pre-season, all players will be awarded the unranked icon above.

Profile Update

The player profile is your homepage for showcasing your achievements, stats honour, teams, awards, socials and more.

Players can access their profile page by clicking on their avatar in the top-right-hand corner of their screen and selecting 'my profile'.

Once there you can select one of the three tabs:

Profile - Your basic information at a glance. From here you can view a player's country, social accounts, recent matches/tournaments, teams, honour and profile views.

Stats - Your stats tab is where you get to view a player's competitive progress and history on the ACGL platform. Your overall stats showcase the number of podium finishes, tournaments played, matches played and your win ratio. Below is your specific game stats relating to the titles that you have played on the ACGL platform. View your rank and track your progress on the ELO graph.

Clips - Have you managed to do something impressive? Well, this is the best place to showcase your clip. You can submit your clip by heading to the clip homepage and it will link automatically to your profile.

But wait, there's more

In the weeks to come, we will be revealing our specific plans for our individual titles and showcasing our brand new ranks. There is also so much that we can't share just yet, but will be revealed in due time.

For now, we would like to take a look around, sign-up to some of our tournaments, check out your profiles and give us your feedback, thoughts, bug reports and comments.

Welcome to ACGL 2020.
